That's it! That's all folks!
Mood:  party time!
Topic: Final Results

Hi everyone,

I have FINALLY posted the final results for everyone!  You can see your final course results on OMNIVOX and you can see your final exam results on my website.  Just go to https://pattiholter.tripod.com/final_results.html and click on your group to see how you did.

I really recommend that you pick up your duo-tangs from the Language Lab and verify my calculations.  The dates and times that the lab is open are noted on the results on the website.

Have a happy holiday and I wish you all well in everything that you do...

Remember that it is "the journey, not the destination!"

Making your final exam EASY!!! (Okay...easier!)
Mood:  lyrical
Topic: Week 14

Hi all of you A2 students!

I bet that you thought that I had forgotten about your extra special surprise!  OF COURSE NOT!!!  It just took a little extra time to arrange.

Now I know for sure that I can announce that you will be completing your final written exam with the use of a computer!  Yes, I have arranged that you complete your written exam in the Language Lab.  That means that you will be permitted to use the spell check and grammar check functions on the Word program.

If you respond to my blog, I will also permit you to have access to online dictionaries and any thesaurus.  All the other students who do not respond to this blog will only have access to a dictionary book and no online features.

I'm looking forwards to hearing your great reviews and I hope that this little extra bonus can help you to produce excellent final Writing Exams.

 Patti :)

Another Great Offer for You Not To Miss!!!
Mood:  hug me
Topic: Week 11

Hi everyone,

I'm really excited about the play this week on November 15.  Don't forget to come 20 minutes early so that you can get a good seat and hand in your work to me.

I have a special offer for all of the B2 students.  On Wednesday, November 15, after the play at around 1:30ish, Mara and I will be holding a workshop that will last until 3:00.  This workshop is for your website corrections and any other questions that you might have.

If you come to the workshop, I will give you 5 of your 9 grammar points that I have been trying to redistribute.  If you can't come on that day.  I will give you the points if you make an appointment before November 23 to see me in my office for the same purpose.

Please confirm your attendance to the workshop or reserve your appointment by posting a comment on this site or sending me an email message so I can know how many people to expect.  We can then book a room that is big enough.

As for the A2 students, I don't have any freebies for you today, but you can be sure that there will be one soon!

Bye for now!

Patti :)

Surviving Midterms
Mood:  don't ask
Topic: Week 9

Wow!

I finally have a moment to get back to my blog!  I don't know how you guys are all doing but I am just barely surviving these midterms!  The B2 groups are taking a very long time to correct.  The subjects are really interesting and the research very thorough.

I appreciate your understanding in any delays on getting your exams back!  Don't forget to pick up your duo tangs from the Language Lab (D-215) if you do not receive it in Week 9 class.

Things are going to start slowing down in and finish up in the next couple of weeks.

For those of you who don't know, all groups will not have class on Week 11 (check your Course Plan for the actual dates) because you will be seeing a play called The Green Fields Beyond.  It is a play set on a night before a battle in World War I.  You will be filling in more on it in Week 10 class.  All of the people who attend the play will be exempted from the Final Listening Exam!  I would expect that everyone will be there!

Well!  It's back to correcting for me!

Blah Blah Blah...Speaking Exams!
Mood:  chatty
Topic: Week 7

Hi everyone!

Boy!  Time sure is zapping by at the speed of light!  Can you blelieve that the Speaking Exams or just around the corner?  Well, I'm sure that this might be stressing some of you out!

Here are some helpful hints.  BE PREPARED!!!  You cannot "wing it" like you used to do in high school.  Bring a candy for afterwards because your mouth will be very dry!

As a little help for those of you who are super prepared, super keen, and super organized, I am offering you a chance to complete your Speaking Exam with me in my office during my office hours.  Here is how it works.  You must repond to this blog by posting a comment with your name and time that you would like to complete your exam.  I will list the possible times in this message.  If you are in B2, this means that you won't have to show up for your class unless you need to complete your Writing Exam.  You just have to show up for your appointment with me.  If you are in A2, you will only have to complete your Writing Exam and I will not call your name on that day.  If you try the exam in a special appointment and you fail, you just have to be prepared for your regular exam like everyone else.  If more than one person asks for the same time, I will form a small group and you can complete the exam with that smaller group.  Please plan to be there for at least 15 minutes.

Times:

Monday, October 16 - 9:00 to 10:45

Tuesday, October 17 - 9:00 to 12:00

Wednesday, October 18 - 2:00 to 3:00

Friday, October 20 - 9:00 to 12:00

Monday, October 23 - 9:00 to 10:45

Tuesday, October 24 - 9:00 to 12:00

Anyways, this is just another option for those of you who find the testing procedure as stressful as I do.

I hope you all succeed and I am really looking forwards to having many mysteries solved (B2) and laughing like crazy (A2).  Good luck!

Patti :)

Tests are coming up
Mood:  quizzical
Topic: Week 6

Hi everyone,

I'm sure all of you are pretty stressed out about the upcoming exams.  Here is a little bonus if any of you are interested:  To benefit from these offers, you must repond to my blog with a note including your name and group.

A2 students - Those of you who passed the in-class listening activity on Friday and rspond to the blog will be exempted from the listening exam next class.  Furthermore, those of you who did not pass and come to the listening exam practice in D-215 of Friday at 12:00 and pass that will also be exempted from the listening examin class on Friday.

B2 students - If you think you did poorly on your listening exam and want a second chance, come to D-215 of Friday at 12:00.  Those of you who haven't done the test yet and come to participate in the practice on Friday will be exempted if you pass.

Again, to take advantage of this limited offer, you must repond to my blog with your information.

Good luck this week.

Patti :)

Shock and Awe (again!!!!)
Mood:  d'oh
Topic: Week 5

Hi everyone,

Shock:

The state in which a teacher is when students are not handing in their assigned work and not showing up for class!

Awe:    ------- Speechless ----------

This is the one and only chance for students to have a "get only 10% reduction in late work" opportunity.  Repond to this blog and hand in your assignment and I will only remove 10% from your assignment instead of 10% per day that it is late. (Please be sure to tell me your first name and last initial as well as the day of your group.)

I'll save the lectures on how you have to do your homework to pass!

Patti

Slowly but Surely
Mood:  rushed
Topic: Week 4

Well, another week has flashed by.  Everyone in the B2 groups has finally gotten a start on that first web page.  During last class it was fun to get a little glimps of your sites.  I'm looking forwards to visiting them in Week 5.  I have a feeling it is going to be quite long to get through them, only because they are going to be so interesting to see!

I'm sure several of you are worried about those articles.  I want you to just bring what you have to class and we can work from there.  If you are having difficulties (probably because some of you are interested in everything and are having trouble choosing a subject), I will help you to find something in Week 5.

Fridays are always a lot of fun because I love story time!  Now it is your turn to start producing and showing me what kind of stories you can tell...Entertain me!

 Have a great week!

Patti

Down to Business
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: Week 3

Hi everyone,

We are definitely into the routine of school!  The honeymoon is over!  I'm sure that you are beginning to feel the pressure of homework and due dates.  It is really easy to get behind at this point.  And when you fall behind now, it is tough to catch up!  If you need help staying on task or need help with being motivated or just plain need encouragement, come to CAA (Centre d'aide L-304).  I'll be there on Mondays from 10:45 to 3:00.  I'll be able to help you with your English work and corrections to ensure that you get great results.

B2 students, you will have a lot of corrections to complete on your Personal Profile texts next week.  Fortunately, in your Week 4 class, I have planned in-class time for you to work on your corrections.  I'll be there to advise you on changes that will make those texts works of art!

A2 students, I hope that you are finding your Photo Adjective Projects inspiring!

The semester is moving along quickly!  I hope you all have a good week!

Patti

Shock and Awe
Mood:  surprised
Topic: Week 2

Hi everyone,

Week 2 was definitely a week of emotions!  I have to thank all of you B2 students for your patience this week.  What a surprise it was when Tripod would not permit everyone register for an account at the same time!  AHHHH!  This was definitely not in my plan!  Well, seeing as how this is my first time creating and testing this material, I expect that you will all be victims of more glitches like that.  (Hopefully not too many more!)  I hope all of you have since been able to register and get a Tripod account from home and are ready for so website construction in Week 3.

It was great to read the B2 Personal Profiles; however, there is a lot more work to be done on that assignment.

Each group is developing a personality and I have to say that I am generally impressed with all of you and the efforts that you have been putting in to try to accomplish the work to be done.

On Friday, the A2 group got to watch the movie Above All Else on the new Canon projector and I have to say that it was very impressive to see the movie on the "big screen."  I love that new lab and will absolutely try to get in there as much as possible within the program.

Well, let's hope that Week 3 goes smoothly and that all of you enjoy what I have planned for you...and that everything goes as planned!

Have a great week.

Patti :)
