 In Nuts and Bolts, complete:

o       (Parts of Speech/ Pronouns) p. 3 to 7 ex. 4, 5 & 6, ALL exercises.

o       (Prepositions of Time & Place) p. 56 ex. 4

o       (Other Prepositions) p. 196 ex. 5

Reading
Read the excerpt from the movie Above All Else in the A2 Course Notes and highlight the descriptive vocabulary.

Begin to read "Wander Lust" in your A2 Course Notes.  The worksheet for this is due on Week 4.  I will hand it out in class next week or, if you wish to work in advance, you can download it from the handouts.
 
Grammar
Complete the sheet on Plurals for next class. 
Complete the foloowing exercises in the Nuts and Bolts of English Grammar:
     - (Simple Present & Present Progressive Tenses) p. 11 to 21
     - (Comparatives) p. 174 to 181
Don't forget to check your answers for the numbered exercises in the back of your grammar book.

Writing

Bring a good dictionary and thesaurus (if you have one) to class because we will be doing a dictionary activity in our next class.

Correct your Logo.
 
Complete your Photo Adjective Project with your twenty-five (25) advectives surrounding your photo along with a title that sets the tone for your piece of "art."

Week 4 (Due on Week 5)
 
Reading
Read the excerpt from Into Thin Air.
 

Writing

Write a 200 to 250-word past tense descriptive paragraph.  You must try to describe a moment.  Choose a 5-minute moment like sitting at the bus station and describe what you feel, see, smell and hear.  You must practice using descriptive vocabulary following examples from the texts and work that you have read and completed to provoke a mood. (NO PORNO)

 

Grammar
If your had problems witht the Past Tense Group Worksheet, complete the activities on pages 25 to 33 in your Nuts and Bolts of English Grammar.
 
Complete the following new Grammar activities. 

     - (Future Tenses) p.69 to 72 – Review “ing” Spelling Rules

     - (Phrasal Verbs) p.149 to 150 ex. 1, 2

     - (Idiomatic Expressions) p. 152

     - (Adjectives ending in “ing” & “ed”) p. 152 to 154.

Week 5 (Due on Week 6)

 

Reading

Read “Por Puesto A-Go-Go” and complete the work sheet. (due on Week 7)

 

Writing

Correct your Photo Adjective Project and the “Wander Lust” assignment.

 

Write three (3) Lie Detector Statements (two that are true and one that is false).

Complete the Question formation Sheet (Side 1 and Side 2) in preparation for the Lie Detector speaking activity.

Nuts and Bolts of English Grammar

Complete the following new Grammar activities. 

     - (Present Perfect Tense) p.37 to 49

     - (Gerunds and Infinitives) p.131 to 137

     - (Reported Speech, Say/Tell, Embedded Questions) p. 141 to 145

     - (Yet, So/Too, Either/Neither, Some/Any, Double Negatives) p. 163 to 168.

Exams

You will have three exams on Week 6 (next class).

     - Listening – Remember that on Friday at 12:00 I will be in D-215 to give those of you who wish to

       have extra practice another opportunity to do a listening activity.

     - Reading

     -Grammar – based on all that we have covered in Nuts and Bolts of English Grammar so far.

 

There will be a regular class so be sure to bring all of your books.

 

 

Week 6 (Due on Week 7)

 

Reading

Read “Por Puesto A-Go-Go” and complete the Worksheet. (due on Week 7)

 

Writing

Correct your Descriptive Paragraph assignment.

 

Grammar

Study for the Midterm Grammar Exam (all the units that we have completed to date).

 

Exams

You will have three exams on Week 7 (next class).

     - Reading

     -Grammar – based on all that we have covered in Nuts and Bolts of English Grammar so far.

     - Writing – Please bring a good dictionary and all of your English books.

 

I will be giving you the subject for the Speaking Exam that will be on Week 8

 

Week 7 (Due on Week 8)

 

There is no new homework for Week 8 because you will complete your Writing Exam and during the Writing Exam, I will call your name and you will present your "Funny Past Tense Story" to me (outside of the classroom).

 

Remeber that it has to be:

   - well organized with an introduction (Avoid "I'm going to talk about..." types of sentences!).

   - have very good description (check the sheet on description) and fantastic vocabulary.  I have to feel like I can see, smell, taste or experince it as you did at that time.

   - practice your story and pay particular attention to your pronunciation of the past tense verbs!  Do not sound like a robot!  I don't mind if you don't say everything that you prepared on the sheet!  You are allowed to make errors!

   - within the time limit because I don't have extra time.

 

Week 9 (Due on Week 10)

 

Reading

Read “Out of Control” and complete the work sheet. (due on November 15 at the play)

 

Writing

Correct your Midterm Writing Exam and “Por Puesto A-Go-Go” Work Sheet.

          To correct the work sheet, you must:

                    - improve the vocabulary, description, structure and grammar

                    - add Past Perfect Tense

                    - improve your presentation by typing your work (double-spaced please)

 

Grammar

Nuts and Bolts of English Grammar

Complete the following new Grammar activities. 

     - (Past Perfect Tense) p.61 to 66

Don't forget to check your answers for the numbered exercises in the back of your grammar book.

 

 

Other

Don’t forget to bring $5.00 to buy your ticket for the play that will take place on November 15, 2006.  This play will replace the Week 11 class.

Week 12 (Due on Week 13)

 

Writing

Correct your “Out of Control” Work Sheet.

 

You must hand in your duo tangs with all of your assignments attached inside and placed in the correct order (see the A2 Mark Breakdown Sheet for the order), ensuring that the corrections precede the original copies in all cases.

 

  

Grammar

Nuts and Bolts of English Grammar

Complete the following new Grammar activities. 

     - Conditional p.115 to 121

     - Passive Voice p. 105 to 111

     - The Review Units

Don't forget to check your answers for the numbered exercises in the back of your grammar book.

  

 

You must bring your grammar textbook to class because I will be looking at them and issuing Work Habit Marks accordingly.

 

 

The final Grammar Exam will take place next class.

 

Other

If you were absent from the play on November 15, you need to make arrangement to complete the final listening exam.

 

If you did not complete the “Out of Control” Work Sheet, you need to see me about the final reading exam.
