The elements for paragraph and text writing are taught and practiced using their reading texts and writing assignments.

-         Use of descriptive vocabulary – comparisons.

-         Thesis statements, topic sentences, and message.

-         Reading between the lines.

-         Applying and transferring messages into their own lives.

(These ideas are used for writing assignments and in-class speaking activities.

There is a very strong focus on reading.  The texts are complex and descriptive.  The texts are used to teach and practice the following:

      -         Use of descriptive vocabulary – comparisons, similes, and

                metaphors.

-         Identifying thesis statements, topic sentences, and message.

-         Reading between the lines.

-         Applying and transferring messages into their own lives.

(These ideas are used for writing assignments and in-class speaking activities.)

This course content has been designed to tap into the students’ desires for personal growth and to give them practical and positive models and ideas that may help them to adapt in challenging situations.  Discussions are centered on their experiences and how those experiences have taught them.
